kiwiaussiecanuck, Vancouver, Canada - “Prince 2 Junk”
We did an overnight on this boat to further out islands to escape the tourist hoards to the busy parts of the Bay. There were only 8 of us on the boat (only 4 rooms) so it was peaceful and we all got along. We were a mix of French and Canadians. The food was excellent and there was alot of it...too much actually as they were like 8 or 9 courses even at lunch. The private beach they took us to was brilliant. The service was great and there was 7 staff on the boat. If we did this again we would do a 2 or 3 night cruise. Only bummer was the 4 hour ride to/from Hanoi.
bandearg, Tipperary, Ireland - “Excellent, even if a typhoon did spoil the party !!”
We booked directly with the company, and paid $100 deposit, the rest in cash on the day before the cruise. We were collected at 8am and taken in a comfortable air conditioned bus to halong bay (we were given a bottle if water for the journey), along the way we visited a craft village (pure tourist trap but ok). There was a bit of a delay before boarding (now we realise it must have been due to the typhoon on the way). They changed the itinary about a bit (Id say to ensure we got to do/see as much as possible) but I cant complain really. The boat was very comfortable, the cabins and bathrooms excellent, the food was amazing and we got more then enough. Unfortunately due to the typhoon we had to go into port at 5.30pm the next day so we missed out on the BBQ dinner in the cave, although we did see the cave and it looked amazing. The company gave us an immediate cash refund when we arrived back in Hanoi and refunded us the deposit back into my credit card. We were charged for the 1 night cruise even though we had a day and a half (12.30pm day 1 to 5.30pm day 2, so much more than a 1 day cruise)
Adventuresdxb, Dubai, India - “Great trip - Dragon Pearl 3”
We had a great trip - 2 days /1 night. Fantastic food onboard the ship and we went kayaking and cave walking. The rooms were very comfortable and the service on board was amazing. We had a great trip and will recommend it to everyone.
Duncan_at_home, Kent - “Wonderful site and experience”
My wife and I had a 2 day cruise (1 night) on Dragon Pearl. We had been travelling on our own but then joined another 18 people for the trip. They were a total mix of age nationality etc which made for entertaining meals as you got to meet a new couple. The views were amazing- a real highlight of any holiday. I had been warned to expect whole flotillas of junks/tourist boats queueing up to see the sites and fishing villages BUT this was NOT our experience at all. Thank you to Dragon Pearl! We had an english/french speaking guide who was very attentive and knowledgeable. She took us sea kayaking on the first afternoon - a new experience for me as a 60 year old but great fun. Day 2 was a trip to a floating fishing village - again great fun and educational - it was great to see the locals rowing the boats with their feet but also really good to see that each boat was equipped with a hand net which was used to scoop up any plastic etc floating to ensure that the bay stayed clean. The cabins were more than adequate if not large - we managed to stow away a fortnights luggage without too much effort. The only downside was a cockroach in the bathroom but if you turn on the light before entering you dont see it!!!.
mySEAtravels, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - “A great experience”
We really enjoyed our trip on the Dragon Pearl I. Although I am not a fan of organized tours, We really wanted to see Halong Bay and there appeared no other alternative. So, after a terrible initial experience booking with Columbus Cruise (not recommended at all), our hotel organized the Dragon Pearl last minute. We were satisfied, particularly with the route though the less travelled Bai Tu Long bay. The boat was of a good standard and the staff were lovely. The drivers to and from Hanoi should be commended as we felt safe the whole time throughout some pretty crazy traffic.
